Handel's Sarabande is the third piece from his 'Suite for Harpsichord No. 4 in D minor, HWV 437,'
and it's a piece that could be called the essence of Baroque music.
The sarabande is originally a slow, solemn dance in triple meter that originated in Spain.
It's a form that expresses aristocratic elegance and deep emotion.
Especially in minor-key sarabandes, you can feel sorrow, dignity, pain, and sublimity.
I've reinterpreted this piece — one you may have encountered in classic collections since childhood — in a modern way.
I wanted to bring out humanity's deep anguish and heavy emotions even more through modern techniques.
The sarabande is structured in a variation form.
Likewise, this modern sarabande also maintains the variation form,
and while staying true to the basic framework of the original song, I added modern rhythms and harmonies.
Heavy and solemn, yet not entirely dark — there's a sense of reverence when you listen to it.
A sarabande with a modern feel. I hope many of you enjoy performing it.
